We had an overwhelming response in 2012 and with the event being our 25th, we are taking a break this year and are not hosting the Extravaganza event. We do have some info on upcoming vegetarian/vegan events you can attend. Please click the event page for more info.
A little bit of History…
As part of the class lineup for helping people make healthy choices, with the Better Living Seminars organization founded by Dr. Arthur Weaver M.D. We partnered with many fine vegetarian cooks from Metropolitan, Oakwood, and Plymouth Adventist churches in the Detroit surrounding area of Michigan to offer this huge event.
The event started because we had a desire to share recipes of plant based holiday type dishes with friends and guests from the community. Our goal was to let them experience how wonderful the holidays could be with out ham or turkey, crazy as that may sound. After our first event, November of 1988, the popularity grew quickly and we had to sell tickets in advance.
Each year we host this event to a sell-out crowd and serve over 650 guests. Our event has served as a model for many successful tasting events of its kind across the country. We are glad to have a part in sharing ideas and insight about the art of creating and serving elegant vegetarian holiday meals.
I never dreamed we would have presented this event for 25 years. Interest is at its peak on this topic and we have seen the need to continue reaching out to the community with instruction and tasting opportunities on plant based cooking. We are retooling and hope to offer smaller more interactive complete meal experiences that will feature performance demonstrations of what you are eating so you can go home ready to wow your dinner guest with your delicious plant-based dishes.
It would have never been possible without the loving dedication of many excellent cooks willing to work and give of their time, money and talent to share their favorite family holiday traditions over the years. We will be presenting many of these family favorites with updated whole foods flare worked into the presentation.
